Residential, ISP, Datacenter or Mobile: How to Choose a Proxy Type

By IPronix · Updated

The four proxy types differ in where the IP comes from, whether it changes, and how it is billed. Start from the job you need to do, then pick the cheapest type that does it reliably.

Do you need the IP to stay the same?

If you log in to accounts or run long sessions, a changing IP can trigger security checks. Choose static ISP proxies: a dedicated ISP-registered address that stays the same for the whole rental period and is kept on renewal.

If you collect public data at volume, spreading requests across many addresses matters more than keeping one. Choose a traffic product (residential, mobile or datacenter), which can use a new IP on every request. Residential and mobile can also hold a sticky session for up to 120 minutes for multi-step flows.

How strict is the target website?

  • Lenient targets and APIs: datacenter proxies are usually enough and cost the least.
  • Sites that block hosting-provider IPs: residential or ISP proxies, whose addresses belong to internet service providers.
  • Platforms built around mobile apps or that expect carrier traffic: mobile 4G/5G proxies.

How is each type billed on IPronix?

  • Residential: by traffic, from $1.65 per GB. Packages 1 GB to 1,000 GB, targeting by country, region or city in 42 countries.
  • Mobile 4G/5G: by traffic, from $6.45 per GB. Packages 1 GB to 100 GB, targeting by country and region in 42 countries.
  • Datacenter: by traffic, from $1.20 per GB. Packages 5 GB to 1,000 GB, targeting by country in 42 countries.
  • Static ISP: per dedicated IP per month with unlimited bandwidth, from $6.60 (Basic, Dedicated, Premium plans, from a single IP), rented for 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months in 70+ countries; choose the country and, optionally, the ISP network.

Static ISP orders get volume discounts of up to 10% per IP as the quantity grows; traffic packages cost less per GB as they get larger. Prices on the website are indicative starting prices; the exact price is calculated at checkout.

A quick rule of thumb

  1. Start with datacenter if the target allows it: it is the cheapest per GB.
  2. Move to residential when datacenter IPs get blocked and you need household IPs or city-level targeting.
  3. Use static ISP when you need residential-like addresses that never change.
  4. Use mobile when the target expects phone traffic from a carrier network.

The cheapest way to test is a small order: the smallest is the 1 GB residential package at $2.54. There is no free trial.
